Don’t we all love flowers? Don’t we love to be spoilt and showered with flowers in sickness and in health by our loved ones and friends? Is it not in our culture to care for our family, friends and neighbours?
Roses symbolise love, romance, beauty and purity.Orchids symbolise love, affection, maturity and charm. Carnations stand for innocence, passion and pure love. There you have it.
Fresh flowers on the breakfast table would certainly bring a little cheer and give a good start to the day. A nice little bouquet would help brighten up a drab looking and claustrophobic hospital ward and gives a boost and hope to the guy at the hospital bed. A stalk of red rose would melt anybody’s heart any day! I know that it would melt mine! On your bad day, a surprise bouquet from someone so dear would have made your day.
No matter how busy we are with our daily lives, we should take time off to be gracious and caring towards our loved ones, friends and neighbours. It is sad that the desire for material gains and wealth has somewhat eroded our traditional values and virtues. It has made us impersonal that some of us don’t even know who our neighbours are anymore.
A potted orchid plant for a distant relative whom we have taken for granted, will help rekindle and warm up the relationship. As for our neighbour,a smile will break the ice and perhaps on their special festive day, just say it with flowers. Then you can proudly say that we are a caring society……… that our semangat kejiranan is alive and well.
