Let's Learn Correct Words!



corrigible  (cor·ri·gi·ble) adj.

DEFINITION:  capable of being set right, reformed or improved.

EXAMPLE OF CORRIGIBLE:

  • There are corrigible lapses in the author’s grammar, but nothing that a good editor cannot readily fix.
 SYNONYMS:  correctable, fixable, remediable, redeemable, repairable


precocious  [pre·co·cious] adj. 

DEFINITION:   1. exceptionally early in development or occurrence  2. exhibiting mature qualities at an unusually early age

EXAMPLES OF PRECOCIOUS:
  • She was a precocious child who could read before she went to school.
  • A precocious musician, he was giving concerts when he was seven.
SYNONYMS:  inopportune, early, premature, unreasonable, untimely


 recuperate  (re·cu·pe·rate) verb

DEFINITION: 1.to regain health after an illness 2. to bring back into use or currency

EXAMPLES OF RECUPERATE:

  • Although she left the hospital two days after her operation, it took her a few weeks to fully recuperate.
  • She took a day off to recuperate.

SYNONYMS: improve, get better, recover, convalesce
